December 2004 - "Giving Back While Moving UP"
ProSearch President Speaks at Women's Leadership Event
President and Founder, Suzanne F. Fairlie, served as a panelist for the Women's Leadership Networking Group of the Eastern
Technology Council December 7, 2004. The panel shared the value and importance of volunteering, as well as the larger lessons
and opportunities to be gained through the donation of one's time and expertise. Fairlie spoke about her experiences serving
on the boards of directors of Junior Achievement and The Opera Company of Philadelphia.
"Volunteering should be time one builds into one's life," recommended Fairlie, who started volunteering when she was in the
third grade. "The payback will be three-fold: 1) it makes you feel good about yourself when seeing people whom you have helped
succeed or do better, 2) you don't have to just give dollars; your leadership talents are often more important to being
successful at volunteering, and 3) it provides you an opportunity to meet exceptional, like-minded people who become friends
or business associates."
Fairlie is an expert in retained search of information technology (IT) and related professionals. She has authored
numerous career-oriented articles and speaks nationally on hiring and recruiting practices.
Joining Fairlie on the panel were Patrick Callihan, representing Business Volunteers for the Arts; Rosalind Wilson, Drucker
and Scaccetti, for the American Diabetes Association; Valerie Cuccinota, Terri Lynne Lokoff Childcare Foundation and June
DePonte, Industry Solutions Manager, Nextel, representing her work with Art Reach.
Topics highlighted during the panel discussion included the determining factors in choosing an organization for which to
volunteer, how to maximize networking opportunities, and the challenges panelists had encountered while volunteering their
time and talents.
Fairlie is the recipient of the "2004 Aetna Small Business of the Year" Award for the MidAtlantic Region, in part because of
her personal as well as company's devotion to the community. A $5000 grant accompanied the Award, which ProSearch designated
to Project H.O.M.E. in Philadelphia. Fairlie is a member of the Board of Directors of
Pinnacle Society
which is the nation's premier consortium of Top Recruiters
within the permanent placement and search industry. Since 1989, the
Pinnacle Society has provided the nation's top recruiters a forum in
which to exchange the business principles and placement techniques that
lead them to achieve, and allowed them to maintain their success. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Black Data Processing Association
(BDPA), and is a member of the Forum of Executive Women and The Union League of Philadelphia among other notable groups and
associations.
Fairlie is the founder of ProSearch, which was established in 1988 and is WBE and WDBE certified. The firm's primary
