Interviewing Resources - Necessary Interview Documents

Companies today are really doing their homework on candidates before hiring them. The following is a list of documents you will need during the interview process.

  • Social Security Card
  • Driver's License
  • List at least 3 professional references with current contact numbers.
  • Have a copy of your resume with you when filling out the application to make sure employment dates are exact.
  • Check with your college or university to make sure they will verify you have your degree.
  • Thank You Notes. Thank you notes are often considered part of the interview process. It shows: your interest in the job, your attention to the discussion that took place, your written communication skills, and your sense of urgency. It is very important that you proofread the thank you note. It is a good idea to have someone else proofread it as well.

Checking with your college or university to make sure they will verify you have your degree may seem strange, but we had an instance of someone attending a college for four years, walking across the stage, and receiving a diploma; however, there were unpaid library fines and book fees, so the degree was never posted, therefore this person did NOT have a diploma. The company found this out after the candidate began working, but had to let the person go because the candidate stated on the application that she had a degree, and therefore had lied on the application.
