Common Interview Mistakes

  1. Poor personal appearance.
  2. Lack of interest and enthusiasm.
  3. Over emphasis on money: interested only in best dollar offer.
  4. Condemnation of past employers.
  5. Failure to make eye contact.
  6. Limp, fishy handshake.
  7. Late to interview.
  8. Failure to express appreciation for interviewer's time. Not sending thank you note.
  9. Asks no questions about job.
  10. Lack of background knowledge on the company.
  11. Quotes their headhunter on the interview. "She/he said to say...".
  12. Complains about personal life during interview.
  13. Discusses and compares opportunity with other company with which they are interviewing.
  14. Tells interviewer/hiring manager that time is up and they have to go.
  15. Not asking the employer what the next step is to move on in the process.
  16. Not knowing interviewer's name or pronouncing name incorrectly.
  17. Heavy handed use of after shave or perfume.
  18. Gum chewing
  19. Indefinite response to questions
  20. Overbearing, over aggressive, has "know it all complex"
  21. Inability to express self clearly: Poor voice diction, grammar
  22. Lack of confidence and poise. Nervous.
