Our Favorite Interview Excuses

Over the years candidates have come up with some unique and creative reasons why they need to cancel an interview at the last minute. Obviously the client perceives this as a lack of planning or lack of interest and last minute cancellations should be avoided at all costs. We thought we'd share some of our favorites with you.

Our Top 10 Interview Excuses

  2. I spilled soda on my lap in the car on my way to the interview.
  3. My car is a very distinctive color. The company I am to interview with is located next door to my current company and it would be too obvious I was interviewing there.
  4. I was physically locked out of car, then in car, due to freezing temperatures. I have to go to the car dealership to get me out of my car.
  5. There was a bomb scare at my office building and I couldn't call the hiring manager for my phone interview.
  6. My husband won't support my sister who is moving to the area so I am leaving my husband and moving out.
  7. I was in line at the bank when the hiring manager called me on my cell phone for a scheduled phone interview. I told him I was fixing a bad check and couldn't talk right now.
  8. The kids just will not let me leave the house.
  9. I forgot to bring money for the tolls.
  10. And our favorite interview excuse is...
