Because it is so difficult to find quality candidates, we thought you'd appreciate this idea. Most of corporate America will have difficulty finding the top talent they need to rise to the top. Due to this increase in hiring, many companies are adopting the 85% rule. The 85 % rule states, "If a candidate fits 85% of your requirements, in this tight job market, that candidate should be considered very strongly to be brought into your organization." ProSearch is a strong advocate of the 85% rule. If the candidate has all the mission critical skills, as well as the soft skills, and demonstrates the capacity to learn and grow, make him or her the offer. It is rare that in today's tight marketplace there is a 100% perfect candidate available, let alone a perfect candidate who is ready to interview, in your price range, and available at the exact time you need him or her. The opportunity cost of holding out for that candidate is sometimes too great. However, if you lack complete confidence in someone, the costs of hiring that person are even greater. If you're not sure that a candidate meets the 85% standards and you have doubts about skills in critical areas, go ahead and ask more questions, especially open ended questions, to make an informed decision.
